Little Rock is in the south of Arkansas .
A crisis erupted when the governor of Arkansas was named Orval Faubus.On September 4, the governor called the nation guard to prevent students from attending the Central High School.
The students had been chosen to attend Central High because of the excellent grades.
On the fisrt day of school only one student showed up because of the danger going on in the school.
She was harrassed by whites and the police had to take her away in a patrol car were she was protected.
Nine students had to carpool to school were they were escorted by the military.
